Is South Padre Island safe?

I have been asked if South Padre Island is safe? And if my properties are in safe neighborhoods?

If you have been to South Padre Island before, you know how the place is and operates. If this is your first visit to the island, in a nutshell, and during normal seasons, the local SPI police department has sufficient manpower to handle daily routine. They are constantly working with other county, state and federal police entities. You will see Sheriff, Constable, Parks Police, Life Guards and others. The fire department is well appointed and in a very central location, just minutes away from everything!

And during high traffic seasons, neighboring law enforcement agencies are brought in to assist. I have seen first hand how this synchronized dance of resources work and it is impressive.

A couple of years ago, I received a call at night, and it was the SPI Chief of Police calling me because there was a disturbance on the street in front of one of my condos. Nothing happened at the end, but the action of calling me scored high in my level of confidence of the local police authorities.

It is important to mention that all of our properties are registered with the city, where they have our emergency contact information.

I don’t have any solid crime statistics for this awesome town, but having been here for 10 years, I can tell you, crime is not a major concern. As in any other place, things happen, but it is not a daily occurrence.

I will close by saying, if you are considering traveling abroad to go to the beach, and safety is a concern, come to South Padre Island, the only tropical island paradise in Texas, USA, you won’t be disappointed!
